Why is this important?

A quick lesson for those who are not quite familiar with public relations. PR is the maintaining of reputation, image, and most importantly, relationship, between a company and its audience. To simplify even further, PR is what companies use to make people like them. It is the overall impression the rest of the world has on the company's brand. PR goes all the way back to newspapers, cigarettes, and a guy named Edward. Without PR, if everyone's favorite superstar were to crash their car into a McDonald's and injure a cash register specialist, they would be seen as a monster. With PR in place, all of the star's extensive efforts working with MADD are emphasized and they are back in the summer's hit film.

Why is PR valuable?

In terms not related to what is considered "spin" for superstars, PR can be used for the benefit of everyone. Many non-profit organizations hold eventsto fundraise for various charities that they work with. By pairing with influential brands, people and other organizations they are able to spread the message of their company more effectively. This raise in public image has the potential to gain awareness and potential support of the cause or company that is seeking monetary assistance. PR can also be a way to reassure a company's audience that they are working to meet their needs. Using PR as a communicative tool to create a balance between company and customer is essential for having a successful brand. Customers want to know their requests are being heard. PR allows the company to show not only through action but through vis Want to add a caption to this image? Click the Settings icon. ual and verbal expression that the company hears them.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters

Take the Black Academy of Arts and Letters as an example. This is a non-profit organization that focuses on the enrichment of children through Caribbean, African and African American letters. The organization uses various media platforms including television commercials, radio spots, digital and social media to promote their events and shows to the community. What sets TBAAL  apart is their music festival. The festival is a Jazz festival in the heart of Dallas, Texas. The music festival drives in music connoisseurs from around the world to indulge in a weekend of culture. The focus of the festival though is to fundraise for the many free events that the organization hosts throughout the year.

Take Away

PR can be very beneficial to any brand when used effectively. A company knowing and understanding their audience can create a greater pathway of communication between the two; allowing the company to better make and market to the needs of their customers. Brands are using PR as a tool for influence, fundraising, maintaining relationships and shaping the overall image of the brand. With platforms such as social media being a popular trend, PR for brands is beginning to change. Creating more venues for creativity and growth.
